ABOUT
Range Studio is a small architectural studio, working across the UK from the Scottish Borders and Edinburgh. Founded by award winning RIBA, ARB and RIAS registered architect Kathleen Hallquist (nee Hodge) in 2021, the practice portfolio has rapidly grown to encompass a range of residential and commercial design work including an Innovation Centre for a Scottish University, sustainability led projects, masterplan studies for new and existing farm steadings, housing developments, feasibility studies for luxury holiday homes as well as new build houses, house alterations and extensions to a range of scales and types of properties including listed buildings.
We collaborate with both clients and other consultants to create contemporary designs that are tailored to a client's needs, project type, scale and specific site context and aim to reflect their aspirations and personalities. We love to hear and interpret a story – whether it’s about a building’s past or a client’s intentions for the building’s future. MEET THE TEAM

Founder/ Director/ Architect
Kathleen Hallquist
B.Arch (Hons), Dip Arch, ARB, RIAS
Kathleen Hallquist founded Range Studio in 2021 after more than 15 years of working for AJ100 London practices Squire & Partners and Jestico + Whiles as well earlier experience at Galashiels/ Edinburgh based Aitken Turnbull Architects and Newcastle based Reid Jubb Brown. A graduate of the Mackintosh School of Architecture/ Glasgow School of Art, her designs for Fellowhills Farmhouse won the Works to Existing Residential Buildings category of the Borders Design Awards in 2018. While she has worked on an array of large and prestigious projects, some of her most rewarding and enjoyable work to date has been on commissions for private clients who intend to occupy and use buildings themselves.
Outside of work hours, Kathleen is a mother of two, wife of a landscape architect, novice gardener and former regional and national level badminton and tennis player. Kathleen is also a Scottish Enterprise Rural Leadership programme graduate and is proud to be part of a wide network of rural business managers and owners that are connected across the UK and abroad.

Architectural Assistant
Ronan Reid
M.Arch
Ronan graduated from the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment in 2021.
During his time at university he worked on briefs involving both adaptive re-use of existing buildings and new builds. Focusing in on detail without losing sight of the overall picture/intentions of a project. His masters thesis titled Home Street Home was awarded the RGU arts and Heritage prize and celebrated for its insight on homes and homelessness in Scottish cities.
Since working he has enjoyed meeting the personalities behind projects and seeing how this can help inform the design.
Outside of architecture he has a interest in all things design, from home interiors to fashion and also enjoys street photography.
CONTACT
While we are architects that are based in the Scottish Borders/ South of Scotland, Range Studio are happy to travel far and wide for interesting projects. To date we have provided architectural services on projects across Southern Scotland and Northern England and travel to new interesting locations is welcomed. Using modern working practices, we are able to attend meetings both remotely and in person and as a consequence, it is not always necessary to appoint a local architect.
If you would like to discuss your ideas for a new residential, commercial or development project and/or receive a complementary site visit and consultation please contact Kathleen directly via the email/ phone numbers listed below.
Kathleen is an ARB, RIAS and RIBA registered architect and the practice is a member of the Rural Enterprise Directory Scotland.
